Author  Christiane Nord

  • Graduated as a translator for German, Spanish, and English at the University of Heidelberg, Germany (1967). She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Studies (Spanish and Portuguese Language and Literature, Heidelberg 1983) and a post-doc qualification (Habilitation) for Applied Translation Studies (Vienna 1993). She received honorary doctorates from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Geneva, Switzerland (2015), and the Universidad de Baja California in Tijuana, Mexico (2017). Involved in translator training since 1967, she is now professor emerita of the University of Applied Studies, Magdeburg-Stendal, Germany, professor extraordinary and research fellow of the University of the Free State at Bloemfontein, South Africa, and visiting professor of several universities in Spain (University of Vigo) and the PR of China. She has appr. 230 publications on translation theory, methodology, and pedagogy, in Spanish, German, and English, with translations into Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, French, Modern Greek, and Arabic.
