Currently Junwu Distinguished Professor at Guangxi University (China). Formerly, Prof. Chan was Professor of Translation at Lingnan University (Hong Kong), where he was Head of Department for 10 years. He was the 29th CETRA Chair Professor of Translation at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (2017). In 2018, Prof Chan was awarded the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong. His English scholarly books include Western Theory in East Asian Contexts: Translation and Transtextual Rewriting (Bloomsbury Academic, 2020), Readers, Reading and Reception of Translated Fiction in Chinese (St. Jerome Publishing, 2010), Twentieth-Century Chinese Translation Theory: Modes, Issues and Debates (John Benjamins, 2004), One into Many: Translation and the Dissemination of Classical Chinese Literature (Rodopi Editions, 2003), and The Discourse on Foxes and Ghosts: Ji Yun and Eighteenth-century Literati Storytelling (University of Hawaii Press, 1998).
