Judith Weisz Woodsworth
Appointed Distinguished Professor Emerita of translation and translation studies at Concordia University in 2023, she has published widely on translation history and theory, including Translators through History, with Jean Delisle, which has been reissued and translated into several languages since it was first published in 1995. Her recent publications include the monograph Telling the Story of Translation: Writers Who Translate (2017), and the edited volumes The Fictions of Translation (2018) and Translation and the Global City: Bridges and Gateways (2021). She has translated three novels by Quebec writers and was the 2022 recipient of Canada’s highest prize in translation, the Governor General’s literary award, for her translation History of the Jews in Quebec. She was founding president of the Canadian Association for Translation Studies, of which she is currently an honorary member. She holds a PhD in French literature from McGill University and lives in Montreal.
