目前是广西大学（中国）的君武特聘教授。他曾任香港岭南大学翻译系教授，担任该系主任长达10年。他也是比利时鲁汶天主教大学第29位CETRA讲座翻译教授（2017年）。2018年，陈教授获得香港研究资助局颁发的人文及社会科学杰出学者奖。他的英文学术著作包括《东亚语境中的西方理论：翻译与跨文本重写》（Western Theory in East Asian Contexts，Bloomsbury Academic，2020）、《中文小说翻译的读者、阅读与接受》（Readers, Reading and Reception of Translated Fiction in Chinese，St. Jerome Publishing，2010）、《二十世纪中国翻译理论：模式、问题与争议》（Twentieth-Century Chinese Translation Theory: Modes, Issues and Debates，John Benjamins，2004年）、《本一而万殊：翻译与中国古典文学的传播》（One into Many: Translation and the Dissemination of Classical Chinese Literature，Rodopi Editions，2003年），以及《谈狐说鬼：纪昀与十八世纪文人述异》(The Discourse on Foxes and Ghosts: Ji Yun and Eighteenth-century Literati Storytelling，University of Hawaii Press，1998年）。
