abstract
This article is a succinct summary of the history of translation into the Catalan language, with special attention to literary texts translated into Catalan from the 13th century to the present. The text is divided, at the beginning, into extensive temporal periods, of three centuries each, from the 13th to the 15th centuries and from the 16th to the 18th. In the first, the beginnings of language and literature in Catalan appear and, consequently, the first news of translations, in a particularly flourishing time of Catalan literature. In the second, which should be one of consolidation, there is an important gap regarding Catalan creation in general, and in translation in particular, due to the Castilianization of the court and a certain abandonment of the cultured use of the Catalan language. In the 19th century, Catalan literature bloomed, for which the appropriation of foreign texts was of capital importance. For this reason, from that moment the sections are more limited in time and refer to cultural movements and historical events that marked the destiny of Catalan letters and their translated texts.
